For your convenience, the form for returning recalled items and receiving replacement products can be found here, as well as on the above websites.
Please note that Squirrel Tracks carries safe versions of two items that are named in the recall. Because we are not a high-volume seller of Thomas & Friends™ products, our stock of James the Red Engine and Skarloey dates from 2003 and 2004 - prior to the recall dates.
Squirrel Tracks sold one item that has been recalled (the Sodor Line Caboose) from April 2005 until November 2005. We have already notified the customers who bought those affected cabooses from us.
Our December Free Monthly Drawing winner is Harold of WA. "Thank you so much...my grandson will be really happy with more things that he really loves, trains." Harold picked a Santa Fe 4-Car Freight Train for his grandson. But shhhh, don't tell - it's for his birthday! Three cheers for Harold!
You could be the next winner, but only if you enter! Click here to enter the Free Monthly Drawing.

• Squirrel News™ - The Squirrel Detects the Rafts?!?
The hard-nosed journalists here at Squirrel News™ have a soft spot for language. This reporter especially likes twisting language around in silly ways. Google’s Language Tools page gives free automatic translations of words, phrases, or entire web pages. Automatic translations are done instantly by computers without human intervention. The tools are very helpful most of the time (like when you want to know exactly what something like “c'est la vie” means), but they’re also very handy for generating language silliness!
Since computers aren’t very good at handling nuance, or slang, or unexpected combinations of words, things sometimes get lost in translation (literally!). But how do you know if something has gotten lost in translation? Most of us are a little rusty on our high school or college foreign languages. The trick is to translate the text into a foreign language and then back to English and see if it comes out about the same as when it started.
In the spirit of fine investigative journalism, this reporter entered the phrase “Squirrel Tracks Wooden Trains” into Google’s Language Tools, translated it into a foreign language, and then translated the foreign-language result back to English. What follows explains why Squirrel Tracks is much more popular in the U.S. and Canada than in Europe or Asia:
French: The Squirrel Detects the Rafts
German: Squirrel feels wooden courses
Spanish: The Squirrel Follows the wood Trains
Italian: The Scoiattolo Rintraccia the Trains Of wood
Portuguese: The Squirrel Follows Trains Wooden
Japanese: The lith pursues the train of the wood
Korean: The train which becomes the tree by the squirrel purses after
Chinese: The squirrel tracks the wooden train
Google’s Language Tools are actually very handy if you’re looking something up on the net and the only info you can find is in a language you don’t speak. A quick translation using Language Tools will let you know whether the page has pertinent info or not. But it’s also fun to look at a web site you know in a language you don’t know. Click here to see Squirrel Tracks’ home page in Japanese! And remember, here where the lith pursues the train of the wood, we’re nuts about trains! (Or is it just nuts?)
How do wooden trains work? How do you connect the track? What does BRIO-compatible mean? And a brief, interesting history of wooden trains. This page gives you the fundamentals of wooden trains in a nutshell!
Here we discuss concepts and ideas for train layouts whether you are starting out slowly or adding to your railroad empire. We’ll also give you our thoughts on what you can do with an inexpensive set, how to make things fit in complex layouts (see the nifty little demonstration graphic), adding track and accessories for creative play, and more!
On this page we show you some examples of interesting and fun layouts that can be put together using common track pieces that come with most any train set. At the bottom of the page you’ll find plans for most of the layouts pictured on our Train Sets page. The pictures, plans, and detailed explanations will give you great starting points for creating your own nifty layouts!
